veeZam Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how veeZam (“veeZam”, “the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), developed by James Ndopnno-abasi, handles information when you use the veeZam Android application. veeZam is designed to capture supported audio playing on your Android device during an active transcription session and convert that audio into text on the device.
veeZam is designed around local processing. We do not operate a server that receives your captured audio or saved transcripts, and the current version does not require you to create an account.
2. Information veeZam Accesses and Processes
2.1 Audio playing on your device
When you explicitly start a transcription session and grant the Android system's required capture consent, veeZam may access supported playback audio from other apps on your device. This can include spoken audio from videos, podcasts, lectures, interviews, voice notes, and other supported media.
Android's playback-capture and MediaProjection mechanisms control what audio can be captured. Some apps or types of audio may prevent or restrict playback capture.
veeZam does not use this feature to record phone calls or to continuously monitor your device. Capture occurs as part of a transcription session that you start.
2.2 Microphone permission
Android requires the RECORD_AUDIO permission for the playback-capture API used by veeZam. The current implementation does not use the device microphone as a microphone recording source. veeZam uses Android's playback-capture path for supported device audio.
2.3 Transcripts
Audio processed by veeZam is converted into text using the Whisper speech-recognition model running locally on your Android device. If you choose to save a transcription, veeZam stores the transcript content together with information such as its title, creation date/time, and duration.
2.4 App preferences
veeZam may store basic app preferences locally on your device, such as your selected theme preference.
3. How Your Information Is Used
Information processed by veeZam is used to provide the App's core functionality, including:
- capturing supported playback audio during a transcription session you start;
- converting captured speech into text locally on your device;
- displaying the transcription while a session is active;
- allowing you to review and save transcripts;
- storing saved transcripts locally so you can view them later; and
- providing basic app preferences and functionality.
4. Local Processing and Data Transmission
The current version of veeZam processes captured audio and speech transcription on your device. Captured audio is held temporarily in memory while it is being processed and is not uploaded to a veeZam server.
veeZam does not currently transmit your captured audio, generated transcripts, transcript titles, or other transcription-session content to us or to third-party servers.
The current version does not include advertising, analytics, behavioral tracking, Firebase, or other third-party services that collect your transcription data.
5. Local Storage and Retention
If you save a transcript, veeZam stores it in the App's private local database on your Android device. Saved transcripts remain there until you delete them, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App.
Raw captured audio is not saved as an audio file by veeZam. Audio used for transcription is held temporarily in memory during processing and is discarded rather than retained as a recording.
6. Sharing of Information
The current version of veeZam does not sell, rent, or share your captured audio or saved transcript content with third parties. Because the current version does not send this content to our servers, we do not have access to your locally stored transcripts through the App.
If future versions introduce cloud synchronization, accounts, analytics, or other services that materially change how information is handled, this Privacy Policy will be updated before or when those practices are introduced.
7. Your Choices and Controls
You control when a transcription session begins. Android system controls determine whether playback capture is permitted. You may choose not to grant the relevant permissions or system consent, in which case the corresponding capture functionality will not operate.
You can delete saved transcripts using the deletion functionality provided by veeZam. You can also remove the App and its locally stored data using Android's device controls.
8. Overlay and Foreground Service
veeZam may display its transcription interface over other apps while you are using the capture functionality. This requires the Android 'display over other apps' capability. The overlay is used to provide the transcription interface while you continue using another app.
veeZam also uses an Android foreground service with the mediaProjection service type while an active capture session is running. Android displays a system notification while this service is active.
9. Security
Because the current version keeps transcription data on your device and does not transmit it to our servers, the security of your device and its local storage is an important part of protecting saved transcripts. You should use the security features provided by your Android device, such as a screen lock, and keep your device and operating system reasonably up to date.
No method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We do not claim that local storage eliminates every possible security risk.
10. Children's Privacy
veeZam is not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an online service. The current version does not require an account or transmit transcription data to us.
11. Third-Party and Open-Source Software
veeZam uses third-party and open-source software components to provide its functionality, including the Whisper/whisper.cpp speech-recognition technology and Flutter/Android components. These components are used as part of the App's local processing architecture. Applicable third-party license notices are provided with the App or its source/distribution materials where required.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when veeZam's functionality or data practices change, or when required for legal or platform compliance. The updated version will include a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
